Legendary Outer Banks Boatbuilder Ricky Scarborough Sr. Passes At 73

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Scarborough family in the loss of Ricky Sr.

Richard “Ricky” Vance Scarborough, Sr. passed away at home surrounded by his family on Friday evening, October 2, 2020.

A true gentleman and legendary boat builder. He will be greatly missed.

A service celebrating Ricky’s life will be held at 5:00 pm on Tuesday, October 6, 2020 at the Wanchese Assembly of God, with Pastors Reggie Scarborough and Kenny Midgett officiating. In lieu of flowers or gifts, memorial donations may be made to Dare Challenge (outerbanksdarechallenge.org).

Scarborough Boatworks posted the following on social media:

“A father is neither an anchor to hold us back nor a sail to take us there but a guiding light to show us the way” Author unknown Ricky Sr. went from this world into Glory with our Savior Friday night. Ricky like the boats he crafted was classic, timeless, strong, steadfast, larger than life, he handled the rough seas with strength and dignity, and safely carried his family through life. He was our lighthouse, our safe harbor, our Pop and we will miss him everyday. I pray we can make him proud with the love and knowledge he gave us.”
