THE SECOND LEG OF THE SOUTHERN KINGFISH ASSOCIATION’S 2015 MERCURY MARINE PROFESSIONAL TOUR

For Immediate Release

SARASOTA, FL – The Southern Kingfish Association (SKA) held the second leg of its Mercury Marine Professional Tour at NBOA Marine Insurance Agency’s Gulf Coast Open Fishing Tournament on April 24 and 25, 2015.

Twenty-six of the most competitive, head-to-head king mackerel tournament fishing teams came to the west coast this past weekend for the second tournament in a Five-event schedule of the 2015 Mercury Marine Professional Tour.

Beginning on Friday, the professional teams fished a two day event, having the opportunity to weigh one fish each day for a total aggregate. Fishing for the local NBOA’s Gulf Coast Open tournament coincided on Saturday, April 25. This was the 5th Annual SKA sanctioned fishing tournament for NBOA with proceeds benefiting the Make-a-Wish Foundation of Northern and Central Florida and the guaranteed first place prize was $10,000. SKA Pro Events usually occur alongside another SKA sanctioned King Mackerel tournament.

Coming in fourth place with an aggregate weight of 79.63 was Professional fishing team Kwazar, from Mobile, Alabama. Team Lil Devil.com took third place this past weekend with a 85.54 aggregate. Catching a 62.97 pound kingfish, the biggest fish caught by the captain and former SKA Angler of the Year Ron Mitchell, team Bandit took home the second place prize with an aggregate of 91.57 lbs. Defending victors from the Professional Tour’s first event in Key West this past January, the Under Armour Fishing team, captained by Arik Bergerman, weighed in an impressive 99.57 lb. aggregate. Their Saturday fish (46.99 lbs.) also captured First Place in the 2015 Gulf Coast Open tournament. Captain Bergerman and his crew took home an impressive $30,000 in cash!

“What an incredible weekend of fun and fishing for the whole family,” says Erin Henshaw, SKA’s Director of Communications. “Thank you so much to all of the sponsors who made this possible and the teams who came out to participate.”
